Academic English

If you are about to start at university, or have already started, we can help you improve your Academic English. Studying for a degree in a second language is an incredibly difficult challenge, and our Academic English course gives you the skills and the confidence to achieve academic success. We have two levels of Academic English; an Intermediate IELTS level 4.5 course for students who haven’t started at university yet, and an Upper Intermediate/Advanced IELTS level 6.0 course for students who have already started at university. On both courses you will learn:

• How to listen to lectures and take notes quickly
• How to write long discursive essays
• How to reference and use citations
• How to summarise and paraphrase
• How to describe numerical data and graphs in words
• How to improve your academic vocabulary by studying word families, collocations, prefixes, suffixes and much more besides
• To distinguish and appreciate cultural differences in learning methods
• Study skills
• How to do research quickly and effectively

Combined Course

Students can also do an 18 hour per week Combined course of General English (10 hours) plus Academic English (8 hours).
